Murphy’s Queen Street Pharmacy

The new Murphy’s Pharmacy project was a renovation of an existing downtown food CO-OP that was abandoned several years ago leaving a vacancy in the availability of fresh food items in the city. The project looked to revitalize the community by providing a pharmacy, four medical clinics and a small food market that made fresh food items and local coffee available in this area.

The design concept was to marry the inviting retail aesthetic of a food market with the clean sterile environment of a pharmacy in one open floor plate. This was done through a transitioning of warm rustic wall, floor and ceiling treatments that transitioned slowly through the floor plate to a fully white and clean palette.

The medical center has a central spine that acts as a waiting area for multiple doctors clinics. Four skylights puncture the spine to bring natural light into the deep floor plate. The waiting room has warm wood accents, way-finding signage and glazing that allows patients to peek into the pharmacy-food market.
